This role focuses on enabling secure, reliable, and scalable connectivity across Ascension’s national footprint through next-generation firewall (Palo Alto) architecture, ForeScout segmentation, Prisma Access cloud security, and Infoblox IPAM solutions.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in large-scale healthcare or regulated environments and deep expertise in modern network security, cloud integration, and enterprise-wide architecture strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Security Design & Architecture

  • Lead the architecture, deployment, and lifecycle management of Palo Alto firewalls, including consolidations and migrations.
  • Design and implement ForeScout segmentation frameworks (macro and micro) to enhance breach containment and minimize lateral movement risks.
  • Expand and optimize Prisma Access to provide secure, cloud-delivered remote access across thousands of distributed care facilities.
  • Define and maintain enterprise Infoblox IPAM standards, ensuring robust DNS/DHCP/IPAM integration and automation.

Strategic Planning

  • Develop and maintain long-term security and segmentation strategies aligned to organizational growth, technology modernization, and zero-trust principles.
  • Contribute to infrastructure roadmaps, ensuring alignment with business outcomes, regulatory requirements, and clinical reliability.

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure that network security designs adhere to HIPAA, HITECH, and other compliance standards.
  • Partner with the CISO and cybersecurity teams to implement and validate robust security controls across the environment.

Performance Optimization

  • Monitor, assess, and improve security architectures to ensure reliability, scalability, and minimal disruption to clinical operations.
  • Identify potential risks, bottlenecks, or vulnerabilities and design proactive solutions.

Project Oversight

  • Oversee complex enterprise security projects from strategy through implementation, ensuring milestones are met within scope, time, and budget.
  • Establish architecture patterns, reference designs, and governance models to reduce technical debt and improve speed to delivery.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner closely with infrastructure, cloud, and application teams to ensure seamless integration of security into enterprise systems.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, providing expertise on emerging technologies and industry best practices.
  • Mentor and guide engineering teams, fostering a high-performance, results-driven culture.

Vendor & Partner Management

  • Engage with strategic vendors (e.g., Palo Alto Networks, ForeScout, Infoblox, and implementation partners such as WWT and CDW) to evaluate solutions and drive successful outcomes.

Innovation

  • Stay current on industry trends in cybersecurity, segmentation, cloud security, and healthcare IT.
  • Recommend and implement new technologies and practices that improve Ascension’s resilience and security posture.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Proven expertise with Palo Alto firewalls, ForeScout CounterACT, Prisma Access, and Infoblox IPAM/DNS/DHCP.
  • Experience leading large-scale segmentation, firewall consolidation, and cloud-based security initiatives.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Palo Alto PCNSE, ForeScout FSCE, Infoblox certifications.
  • CISSP, CCIE, or equivalent enterprise-level security/network certifications.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of firewalls, NAC, VPNs, segmentation, and zero-trust frameworks.
  • Proficiency with cloud-based security and networking (AWS, Azure, Prisma Access).
  • Experience with enterprise IPAM/DNS/DHCP platforms (Infoblox preferred).
  • Familiarity with healthcare IT regulations and standards.
  • Proficient with security monitoring, automation, and performance optimization tools.

Leadership & Communication
