Job Description
The Director of Compensation and Team Member Services is a key leadership role responsible for developing and delivering competitive compensation programs that attract, retain, and motivate a skilled workforce. This position also oversees the HR Response call center team, ensuring they provide excellent customer service and support to all team members regarding benefits and other HR inquiries. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and analytical skills to manage compensation strategy and team operations effectively.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage a department with authority over hiring, firing, and performance decisions.
- Provide thought leadership, strategic direction, and tactical management of the company’s compensation program.
- Lead and coordinate the development, review, and administration of base salary programs, including job analysis, job evaluation, merit, promotions, and salary structures.
- Direct the process of collecting and analyzing market-based compensation information and recommend changes to align with strategic objectives.
- Partner with colleagues to communicate compensation as part of Total Rewards and how employee performance influences business outcomes.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of existing policies, guidelines, and procedures, and improve them as necessary.
- Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to other members of the HR team and company leadership.
- Research and analyze market and industry trends, as well as best practices, and recommend their applicability to the organization.
- Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Manage the budgets for both the compensation and HR Response departments.
- Select, organize, coach, and develop staff members to function as a team and perform at a high level.
- Manage vendor relationships related to compensation planning.
- Ensure excellent support and customer service from the HR Response team to all employees and human resources.
- Take responsibility for the ongoing improvement of HR Response processes and service delivery.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 8-10 years of experience administering base compensation programs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in a fast-paced, diverse work environment.
- Experience with job evaluation, market pricing methods, salary survey techniques, merit pay processes, and performance evaluation methods.
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation preferred.
- Excellent analytical abilities, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Proven leadership and managerial skills, along with strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to be a flexible and proactive problem solver, adept at achieving results in a collaborative environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong service orientation. Must be able to coach and influence others at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to draft policies and guidelines.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the legal, financial, economic, and tax issues that impact compensation.
- Knowledge of all compliance matters, including regulatory and legislative issues, as they relate to compensation.
- Ability to ensure best practices in customer service delivery to internal customers.
- Advanced Excel skills are required.
- Must have a high degree of integrity and be able to maintain confidentiality.
