This position involves the daily operation and maintenance of complex HVAC systems, central chiller plants, and related equipment. The Stationary Engineer ensures all systems run efficiently, safely, and in compliance with relevant codes. This role requires a high degree of technical skill to troubleshoot and repair equipment, as well as the ability to maintain accurate records and provide guidance to others.

NOTE: This job is a safety sensitive position subject to drug testing requirements. A positive drug test will result in a job offer being rescinded or, for active employees, termination, even if they test positive for marijuana and have a valid medical marijuana license.

The Stationary Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of all heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC), and refrigeration systems within the facility. Must have an active Stationary Engineer’s License or a Boiler Operator License.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and 5 years of experience operating and maintaining complex HVAC systems, central chiller plants, electrical systems, and schematic charts.
  • Appropriate state and local licensing are required.
  • EPA Technician Certificate Universal (CFC/HCFC refrigerant processing) is required.
  • State-issued HVAC Mechanical License is preferred.
  • Knowledge of large HVAC and central plant systems, including large chillers and boilers.
  • Knowledge of electrical Lock Out/Tag Out and Personal Protective Equipment usage.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Hepatitis B Shot is required.

  • Operate and maintain direct digital controls and computer systems.
  • Ensure all safety regulations and relevant codes are followed.
  • Maintain proper chemical treatments for various water systems (boiler, chilled, cooling tower).
  • Locate and determine equipment malfunctions using common test equipment.
  • Start, stop, adjust, and regulate equipment as needed.
  • Tour facilities to observe equipment, meters, and gauges to ensure proper operation.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain auxiliary equipment such as pumps, compressors, valves, and controls.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and maintain detailed records.
  • Perform piping work, including cutting, threading, and insulating pipes.
  • Interpret and work from technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Inspect work performed by outside contractors to ensure compliance with project plans.
  • Perform a variety of general cleaning and maintenance tasks in the equipment rooms.
  • Provide training, instruction, and guidance to others on specific tasks.
