Full job description
The ACHE Header Welder / Fitter is responsible for fitting and welding air-cooled heat exchanger headers in accordance with applicable codes, drawings, and quality standards. This role requires strong teamwork, attention to safety, and the ability to maintain quality while working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Employees must be dependable, self-motivated, and flexible in responding to changing production needs, including working overtime when required.
Job Responsibilities
- Read and follow weld procedures, ensuring required parameters are used correctly
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, weld sizes, and dimensions
- Perform fitting and welding operations while maintaining quality and productivity standards
- Willingly perform tasks outside of a preferred welding style as business needs require, including fitting nozzles, wrapper plates, and related components
- Follow all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety requirements
- Work closely with Quality Control to ensure all work meets applicable codes and specifications
- Safely operate overhead cranes, jib cranes, and associated rigging equipment
- Strong team player who contributes positively to overall team performance
- Demonstrates a high level of personal accountability and self-motivation

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience welding air-cooled heat exchanger headers, including corner joints
- Ability to weld in one or more welding positions (1G, 2G, 3G, 6G) as required for code stamp approval
- Working knowledge of one or more welding processes, including SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, and/or SAW
- Ability to weld carbon steel, stainless steel, chrome, Inconel, or other applicable materials
- Ability to meet quality requirements as measured by NDE methods (X-ray, UT)
- Ability to perform accurate header fit-ups in compliance with ASME standards and fabrication drawings
- Experience or ability to learn fitting all aspects of a header, including plug boxes and cover plates
- Experience or ability to learn cutting processes such as carbon arc gouging and plasma cutting
- Ability to repair failed weld joints as identified by inspection and NDE results
Physical Requirements
Employees must be able to sit, stand, walk, twist, kneel, and crouch for extended periods in a climate-controlled but industrial environment. Work may involve repeated use of hands and arms, occasional elevated work, and lifting items up to 50 pounds. Employees may be exposed to high noise levels, fumes, or particles and must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
