General Summary:

The Certified Medication Aide administers medications to residents according to physician orders, ensures medications are ordered and available to residents in timely manner, assists CNA's as necessary, and provides assistance to Charge Nurses as directed. Position requires a current Certified Medication Aide Certification in State of Oklahoma.

Essential Functions:

  • Preparation, administration, and charting of medications.
  • Ensures complete and accurate documentation of medication administration.
  • Monitors, Observes, and Reports medication reactions and side effects to nurse immediately.
  • Ensures PRN medications are correctly documented, including time, medication, reason and results.
  • Taking and recording vital signs. Shall take and record vital signs prior to administration of medications which could affect or change vital signs.
  • Observe & Reports behavior changes, signs and symptoms of illness, and general changes in condition to nursing staff.
  • Assists CNA's and renders direct patient care as necessary:
  • Assist residents as needed during mealtimes and with extra hydration.
  • Observes all safety and infection control procedures including Enhanced Barrier Precautions.
  • Encourages independence, attendance at activities, restorative programs and rehabilitation.
  • Attends in-service training and education session, as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Current Certified Medication Aide
  • Current Certified Nurse Aide certification
  • Graduate of approved medication course
  • One year of experience as a Certified Medication Aide preferred
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions, communicate effectively, and document appropriately.
