- Hillcrest Hospital Claremore is a 49-bed acute care medical center offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including maternity, cardiology, emergency, orthopedics, alcohol withdrawal stabilization, gastroenterology, and surgery.
Responsibilities
- Must be able to provide basic nursing care to expectant mothers and newborn
- Provides or assists with personal hygiene, such as oral care, peri care, and/or bathing. Performs newborn admission bath and documents that intervention when completed and changes to complete status or notifies care nurse of details for documentation. Upon completion of the bath, the security photograph will be completed.
- Assists patient in ambulation using safety precautions at all times.
- Accurately measures vital signs, intake and output, records and reports changes immediately to the nurse.
- Assists the nurse with collection and processing (via computer) of lab specimens.
- Correctly performs Hearing/Screening test at twelve hours of age. Prints out results and places on Hollister form. Informs Nurse of results.
- Assists Nurse with care of the newborn as directed: Obtains vital signs, weights, and measurements, foot prints places ID bands on mother, significant other and newborn. Obtains and reports blood sugar and blood pressure.
- Assists patients with meals, serves nourishments, deliveries and returns food trays.
- Assists in well baby care and maternal teaching on basic infant care, i.e. holding and posturing infants for feeding and diapering. Delivers initial paperwork to mothers and explains the process to complete.
- Assists in preparing infants/mother for dismissal. Draws Metabolic testing, takes pictures, removes cord clamp, identifies newborn and transports mother and baby to private vehicle via wheelchair.
- Correctly completes the Newborn Admission process in Medi-tech.
- Prepare charts and paperwork for new admissions as soon as empty charts are available.
- Reviews charts on a daily basis for the presence of blank orders and progress notes (stuff charts).
- Enter order sets in Meditech system for both mothers and babies upon admission.
- Familiarizes self with down time procedures.
- Answers phones and call lights, reporting to nurse as needed.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Previous work as a nursing assistant or completion of a nursing assistant training program.
