Perform functions to ensure safe, efficient, and productive operation of the paper mill, and identify and resolve operating and equipment issues guided by precedent and working within the limits of established policies. Perform duties to ensure an adequate supply of pulp to the pulper; move, prepare, and load pulp onto conveyor while complying with instructions and prescribed routines, methods or procedures, and involving the making of minor decisions. Continuously supports Sofidel’s Employee Personal Practice Policy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supports Sofidel America’s Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP to promote a safe, sanitary and hygienically sound workplace.
  2. Work from formulas, procedures, schedules and instructions.
  3. Feed pulper in accordance with the furnish requirements, including the designated amount and type of soft and hard pulp, secondary fiber, and pulp substitute.
  4. Cut wires from pulp and prepare it for the pulper, place pulp on conveyor and activate. Activate and monitor pulper.
  5. Monitor stock chest levels and determine pulper needs. Remain aware of paper breaks in later processes that may feed paper back into chest and influence chest levels.
  6. Coordinate with raw material handlers to ensure First In, First Out on raw materials.
  7. Operate forklift to move raw materials from storage to pulper.
  8. Coordinate with crew to perform service functions on the machine.
  9. Perform first level maintenance on machine as necessary to ensure optimal machine operation.
  10. Assist with housekeeping duties; maintain the organization and cleanliness of the facility.
  11. Observe and comply with proper safety procedures at all times.
  12. Learn and receive qualification for next job in line of progression on machine.

OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

  1. Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.
  2. Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition. Support quality, housekeeping and sanitation standards as well as assuring customer satisfaction
  3. Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Pulper, forklift, and standard tools.
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and quality and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when in the plant and warehouse areas. PPE will include safety shoes, eye and ear protection, reflective vests and hairnets or hats along with any other necessary protection. Temperatures in the plant/warehouse can range a great deal from season to season. The employee will be exposed to considerable paper dust and employees will also be exposed to noise levels that will require hearing protection.
