SCOPE:

Yard Spotter/Jockey is responsible to monitor all traffic inside the facility and to move trailers in and out of docks or around the facility. Yard Spotter/Jockey must be able to back trailers up to dock doors, often with other trailers on either side of docks. Inspects all vehicles for proper and safe operating conditions throughout to assist a fast paced processing plant and/or transportation facility. May require driving in adverse weather conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Drive trailer jockey and tractor.
• Move trailer to designated dock for loading and unloading. Connect and disconnect tractor from trailer.
• Maintain Drop Trailer Log and communicate with Gatehouse and Transportation. Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage before and after shift. Maintain good housekeeping to avoid debris around the facility dock and staging areas. Foster a safe workenvironmentPerform other job-related duties, as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

• Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.
• Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition.
• Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Employee will use computer, radio, phone, yard tractor, trailer, and safety devices.

Education/Experience & Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED or Higher At least 23 years of age

Valid Class A CDL

No more than (2) Moving Violations in the last 3 years. At least 3 years verifiable experience in the last 7 years. No failed or refused drug test in the last 3 years.

LANGUAGE ABILITY:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and quality and procedure manuals.

MATH ABILITY:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when in the plant and warehouse areas. PPE will include safety shoes, eye and ear protection, reflective vests and hairnets or hats along with any other necessary protection.

Temperatures in the plant/warehouse can range a great deal from season to season. The employee will be exposed to considerable paper dust and employees will also be exposed to noise levels that will require hearing protection.
