Job Description

PURPOSE STATEMENT:Forming sheet metal by programming, setting up and operating a brake press and performing other sheet metal operations in a fabrication environment to provide quality products. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: (Minimum education, training, skills and experience)Must have the ability to program, safely set-up and operate CNC and conventional brake presses to form various sheet metals to meet specified requirements with little to no supervision. Ability to operate additional metal fabrication equipment such as drill press, chop saw, grinders, buffers, strip pit and time saver preferred. Must also be able to perform various inspection functions utilizing inspection tools (such as tape measure, calipers and protractor) and read and understand prints, finish specifications, bills of material, routers, and work instructions. JOB ELEMENTS:
  1. Protect yourself, your co-workers, and your company by maintaining a safe work environment. Keep work areas clean and orderly. Immediately report to your supervisor any problems that may have an impact on safety.
  2. Take responsibility for all dimensional and cosmetic characteristics of the parts worked. Consider the next operator as your customer who must be satisfied. Quality must be built in each step of manufacturing; it cannot be introduced at the end.
  3. Notify the lead or operator of the previous process if parts are potentially nonconforming upon receipt.
  4. Initiate revision requests on documents (prints, specifications, bills of material, routers and/or work instructions) when processes or practices are changed to ensure documents reflect current practice. Help maintain accurate labor routings by supplying accurate set-up and run times; report errors and the need for corrections or adjustments.
  5. Maintain accurate record of work performed. Accurately and legibly record work output on routers.
  6. Record scrap material and rework. Records of scrapped material and parts are important for accurate inventory control. Also, the total value of scrap and rework is a good indicator of where effort is needed to solve problems.
  7. Immediately report to your lead any problems or shortages which may impact safety, quality, the schedule or the company.
  8. Protect the company’s investment and maintain a productive work environment by maintaining equipment and property provided. Report to your supervisor any problems relating to company equipment or property.
  9. Perform other assignments or tasks as required.
