Job Description
CNC (Computer Numerical Control) operator sets up, operates, and maintains industrial machinery to fabricate precision parts. They interpret blueprints, load raw materials, program cutting specifications, and perform strict quality assurance using precision measuring tools to ensure components meet exact tolerances. Key Responsibilities
- Machine Setup & Operation: Review work orders and engineering blueprints to program machines, set reference points, and install cutting tools, fixtures, and attachments.
- Material Loading: Safely lift and secure raw materials (metal, plastic, or wood) into feed mechanisms, chucks, or loading areas.
- Monitoring & Adjustments: Observe machine operations to detect errors, adjust feed/speed ratios, change dull cutting inserts, and replace worn tools as
- Quality Control: Use precision measuring instruments (e.g., dial calipers, micrometers, and snap gauges) to inspect finished workpieces against design specifications.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform daily preventative maintenance on machinery, clear chip bins, maintain coolant levels, and report mechanical malfunctions to supervisors.
- Safety Compliance: Maintain a clean work area and strictly follow all OSHA safety protocols, which includes wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Blueprint Reading: Strong ability to read and interpret orthographic drawings, CAD/CAM files, and GD&T (Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Math & Geometry: Working knowledge of basic algebra and geometry to calculate cuts, angles, and dimensions.
- Mechanical Aptitude: A deep understanding of machine mechanics, G-code (for programming), and cutting tool selection.
- · Physical Stamina: Capacity to stand for long periods and lift or carry heavy objects (up to 50–75 lbs).
- · Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent, often accompanied by vocational training, specialized certifications, or 1–3 years of related manufacturing experience
