Core Duties & Responsibilities

- Slab Inspection: Examine incoming stone slabs for structural integrity, mapping out natural fissures, pits, cracks, and fragile veins that require epoxy filling.
- Fiberglass Mesh Backing: Apply fiberglass mesh and resin to the back of fragile slabs to provide critical structural reinforcement for safe handling and fabrication.
- Resin & Epoxy Pouring: Mix, tint, and pour specialized epoxy or polyester resins to fill voids, pits, and open fissures on the face of the stone, matching the color and pattern of the natural slab.
- Chemical Blending: Accurately measure and mix multi-part chemical compounds (resins, hardeners, accelerators, and color pigments) according to specific environmental and stone-type requirements.
- Curing Management: Prepare slabs for the curing process, safely managing the shop's specialized curing tables, vacuum tables, or multi-tier slab racks.
- Surface Pre-Scraping: Use hand tools, razors, or light grinders to scrape away excess cured resin from the slab face, preparing a flat surface for the polishing department.
- Material Handling & Safety: Safely operate overhead cranes, vacuum lifters, and forklifts to move massive, heavy stone slabs into and out of the pour room.
- Inventory & Maintenance: Maintain a clean workspace, manage chemical inventory shelf-life, and meticulously clean pouring tools, mixing buckets, and safety equipment.
Qualifications & Skills

- Experience: 1+ years of experience in stone fabrication, auto-body repair, concrete finishing, or a manufacturing role involving multi-part epoxies and resins is preferred (though many shops provide on-the-job apprenticeship training).
- Attention to Detail: Excellent color matching ability to blend pigments seamlessly into natural stone variations.
- Technical Savvy: Understanding of chemical cure times, temperature sensitivities, and safety data sheets (SDS).
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for prolonged periods and safely push, pull, or lift heavy materials (frequently up to 50–75 lbs).
- Equipment Knowledge: Prior experience operating overhead bridge cranes, vacuum suction lifters, or forklifts is a major plus.
Working Environment & PPE Requirements

- Environment: Exposed to dust, stone particles, and strong chemical fumes from resins and hardeners. The environment can be loud and non-temperature-controlled.
- Mandatory PPE: Must wear a respirator or heavy-filtration mask, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, protective gloves, and aprons.
